Justice for Trayvon Martin
Written by Ran Crosby
When I read the comments about the killing of Trayvon Martin, I begin to wonder if we should change our motto from “the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave” to the “Land of the Ignorant Mind and the Home of Coward Acts”.
Our country was once a proud civilization, but now we use “laws” to justify the killing of an innocent child. It’s amazing to me that we still fear things that are different than us, but yet everyone in this country is a descendant of an immigrant…with the exception of Native Americans.
It does not matter if a Black Man is walking down the street in a suit or hoodie, he is still perceived as a threat and many people are fearful to have that individual in their presence. To everyone who is stating that the killing of a young, Black teenager is just and upheld by the rules of this land, I ask you if that was your child and someone killed them because they felt their opinion of the situation was fact…how would you feel?
To promote a society that embraces vigilante justice, one is merely encouraging an anarchist haven.Regardless of race, religion, sex, or creed if we allow a murderer to hide behind the illegitimate interpretation of the “law of the land” we are setting the precedence for a legal genocide.
“Stand your ground” only applies when one is in clear and present danger not when one feels a skin color is the root cause for committing a heinous act.
